Spirit Compass ("the app") is made by Cognision ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app uses, why, where it goes and how you control it. We collect as little as the game needs: there are no names, emails or passwords in Spirit Compass.

The app has no ads, no analytics and no in-app purchases. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.
Location
With your permission, the app reads your location only while it's open, never in the background. It's used on your phone to place entities, rifts and boss breaches around you, to find nearby landmarks such as cemeteries or water on the map, and to show how far away things are. Your precise coordinates are never sent to our server. To make the game work, these services receive a rounded or coarse area:
- Weather (Open-Meteo): your position rounded to about 1 km, about every 30 minutes, to fetch the local weather that changes which entities appear.
- Map (OpenFreeMap): the map tiles for the area you're viewing, about 1.5 × 2.5 km each, like any online map.
- City name: your phone's own geocoding service (Google on most Android phones) turns your position, rounded to about 1 km, into the city name shown on the radar.
- Our server, only with Field Backup on: a grid cell about 2 × 2 km, so you can join the breach raid near you and see roughly how many hunters are around. We keep only your latest cell and forget it after 30 days.
The app also checks location fixes for signs of GPS spoofing, on your phone. Nothing about this is sent anywhere.
Camera
The camera is used only for the live AR view while the scanner is open. The app never takes photos or video, and never uploads anything it sees.
Field Backup and your anonymous account
Field Backup is off by default. You can turn it on in the Lab. When it's on, our server stores:
- a random account ID and a hashed access token (your recovery code is that token; we can't read it back);
- when the account was created and last seen;
- a copy of your game save: progress, upgrades and the list of entities you contained, with the city name where each happened but no coordinates;
- your latest coarse area (see Location);
- which breach raids you helped contain (deleted 7 days after each raid ends).
The server is in the EU, on infrastructure we operate. Its access logs record IP addresses and are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Game content
The app downloads new events, entities and tuning from our server. These requests carry no account or location; like any web request they're recorded in the access logs described above.
Notifications
Reminders (full capacitor, daily contracts, upcoming breaches and rifts) are created on your phone. Nothing is sent from a server, and you can turn them off in the Lab or in your phone's settings.
Legal bases (GDPR)
- Performance of our service: weather, map and city-name lookups, game content, and, if you turn it on, Field Backup, your coarse area and breach raids.
- Consent: location, camera and notification access (Android permissions you can revoke at any time).
- Legitimate interests: server logs for security, kept 14 days.
How long we keep data
Field Backup data is kept until you delete it. Your coarse area is forgotten after 30 days without an update, raid records 7 days after each raid. Server logs are kept 14 days. Data on your phone stays until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your data, object to processing and withdraw consent at any time. Delete your cloud data in the Lab → Field Backup, or as described on Delete your data. For anything else, email hello@cognision.eu with your recovery code so we can find your anonymous account. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority; in Slovakia that's the Office for Personal Data Protection.
Children
Spirit Compass is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
We don't
- sell your data;
- share your precise location with anyone;
- record or upload camera images;
- ask for your name, email, contacts or photos.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
